TIPS TO OPTIMIZE SLOW TIMES IN YOUR BEAUTY BUSINESS

5 Tips For Distributors

  1. Review Your Annual Goals — Check to make sure you are on track. If not, look at ways you could get back on track. Keep in mind those short-term goals that lead to long-term goals need tweaking every now and then.
  2. Review Your Budget — Make sure you are where you want to  be at this time or ahead. If not, look at what area is lacking and find ways to build that area of your business.
  3. Update Website — Websites constantly need updating, whether it is a new promotion, new products, or focus items, but they also need attention to make sure they stay current. Maybe you want to rearrange the flow to make the online experience easier to navigate. Look at your website like you were the customer and see where you can make improvements.
  4. Work On Marketing Campaign — Slow times are perfect for working on your marketing. Discuss and lay out your promotional flyers for the next 4 to 6 months. It is the best time to work on social media calendars and their marketing campaigns. Create content and videos for later use. Having a great plan ahead of the busy time will ensure you do not fall behind.
  5. Get Involved with Helping Your Customers — Find out the majority of your customers’ needs and offer classes to support them. This shows that you truly care about their business, too – not just yours. Look for printouts to help support their business and place it in their next shipment or store bag. They will appreciate the useful information. These could be on business tips, new products, or a detailed technique they could learn. Samples work, too! You can create them yourself if you cannot obtain them from manufacturers. I have seen several businesses do that with great success.

5 Tips To Help Salon Business

  1. Review Budget — Annual budgets need to be reviewed several times throughout the year. Many things can detour the original plan, such as the voluntary or involuntary termination of an employee, unexpected building maintenance or repairs, or natural disasters. Taking the time during your slow time will allow you to take advantage of cutting costs in areas where needed to offset rising costs in other areas.
  2. Spruce Up The Place — Slow times are the best times to make updates or improvements. Clients love change, but they do not like construction during their time of relaxation in the stylist’s chair. Plan a new paint job, rearrange the furniture, deep clean, or complete remodel. Again, mind the budget and only do what your budget and time allow. Surprisingly, simple things are just as exciting as the big things.
  3. Level Up Your Team With Training — Slow times are the best times for staff vacations, but they are also great for staff education. There are manufacture training all over the world, and many can be brought in the salon, whether live instruction or virtual. Having the team together and learning can be an enjoyable experience. Learning the latest new haircuts or diving deeper into color correction will sharpen skills that will make your salon the talk of the town. Also, those classes can be an advantage in your advertising to let your community know you are staying current with trends and constantly continuing your education to provide them with the best services possible.
  4. Mirror Trend Reports & Marketing Campaign — Most take the safe route and build marketing campaigns to mirror trends. Study those trends in your slow time. If you are a little edgy, then make a plan to break away from the trends and create your own, but make sure it is a solid plan that will work for your image and the community you serve.
  5. Launch A New Revenue Stream — A new service or retail line will bring in new revenue streams. Slow times is the perfect time to receive complete training on a new service to bring to your current customer base and attract new customers in the process. Also, bringing in a new retail line will create excitement with your staff and your clients. You can bring in a well-known line that will sell on its own but have you competing in the market or find a not very known retail line that you basically will have exclusively. Either way, retail works for you — they are your silent partner in business and give you an extra source of income. Placing fun staff sales incentives during slow times will help your staff generate a little extra income, too.

In summary, utilize the quiet period to train your staff, streamline business operations, and strategize for future expansion. Being proactive and creative can transform slow periods into chances for progress and achievement. Remember, I am always available to support you. Feel free to contact me if you need to bounce around some ideas.
